Hydrogen Seperation Membrane for Fuel Cell Application

The World Fuel Cell Council is observing increased interests in the use of membranes for the effective separation of hydrogen from hydrocarbon sources.

The cost of membrane technology is high, cheaper alternatives would contribute to increase the commercial viability of fuel cell systems and electrolysers. Idatech have been utilising membrane technology for a number of years now. Membranes are one of the most crucial components of low temperature fuel cells. However, their cost is high as currently they are platinum-based and cheaper alternatives would increase the commercial viability of fuel cell systems and electrolysers.

Heraeus are now also involved in new materials solutions involving palladium-based membranes. WFCC is pleased to announce a new palladium composite membrane from W. C. Heraeus.

Technical specifications are available in a PDF file from W. C. Heraeaus that can be accessed here
