Power Electronics Engineer

As one of the newest members of the United Technologies Corp. family, UTC Power is able to draw on the expertise of some of the more established divisions, including the industry leaders in fuel cell technology and building heating, cooling and control systems.

A power electronics engineer is needed to work in a small group to identify and adapt power conversion technologies for transportation fuel cell hybrid systems. Assignments will require project involvement with tasks such as component requirements definition, hardware specification, procurement, assembly and testing. Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:

Power electronics system level design, testing and cetification of DC/DC converters for use with hybrid fuel cell systems at power levels up to 150kW.

Energy storage systems including batteries and supercapacitors for hybrid power systems including an understanding of SOC algorithms and hybrid system energy management algorithms.

Traction machine and drive selection criteria and system control (Induction motor, PM Synchronous motor)

Power distribution & protection (12/24/48VDC, 120/208Vac and 480Vac) at current levels up to several hundred amps.

Familiarity with transportation industry electrical standards - SAE, IEC, DIN...



BSEE required. MSEE or PhD preferred with experience in power electronics hardware design, sourcing, testing and certification.

Ability to work safely with high voltage systems in a power lab and on equipment in the field.

At least 5 years of demonstrated hands-on experience with power electronics systems as applicable to this posting.
