SHFCA Aims

Currently technological, business and fiscal efforts continue to strive towards a clean, sustainable energy future, and to embrace a ‘hydrogen economy' model underpinned by fuel cell technology. For example, as Scotland 's fossil fuel resources dwindle and the associated industry declines, substantial economic and environmental opportunities exist for Scotland to lead the world in harnessing its renewable energy resources, for the production of electricity and hydrogen through electrolysis, national consumption and export.

Recognising these significant opportunities a group of Scotland 's leading industrial and academic organisations, working in the field of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, have recently established the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (SHFCA) to represent, promote and develop Scottish interests in this field, both nationally and internationally.

The SHFCA will engage government, industry, academia and the public by operating as part of the existing Scottish Energy Industries Group (SEIG), and hence will enjoy coherent linkage and synergy with existing groups such as the Scottish Renewables Forum (SRF) and Industrial and Power Association (IPA). This is particularly relevant given the wider interest in a ‘hydrogen economy', and of the strategic role that the SHFCA and other SEIG bodies can play in advising and supporting both Government and the new Energy Intermediate Technology Institute (EITI).
