Renewable and New Energy Technology Transfer Network
Renew-Transnet is aimed at supporting small to medium sized enterprises in the renewable energy technology sector through a comprehensive technology transfer process. The project is part-funded by the European CommissionÕs FP5 Innovation programme, and is currently in its demonstration phase. The About section of the site provides details of the research and development consortium, and the four demonstration partners.Ê Each RTD partner acts as a mentor to two demonstration partners in their region.
Renew-Transnet works with technology developers and their management teams to prepare new and developing renewable energy technology businesses for investment. We conduct an initial risk assessment of business plans and provide qualified feedback on how to improve its valuation and funding prospects.
Renew-Transnet is an important market-focussed resource that is being developed to tackle the unique barriers facing renewable energy innovators across the EU. The primary aim is to enable renewable energy innovators to successfully exploit a technology both within their own country and across the EU in a way that has not been possible before: a mechanism to support SMEs during the whole process - from feasibility study to full commercialisation.
As EU member states push ahead with carbon trading, the more aggressive deployment of renewables is one of the most critical milestones on the road to a low carbon future. In order for the European renewable energy sector to seriously compete with the more organised Japanese and American industries, and to better diffuse the innovations, effective promotion initiatives must be engaged.
Although macro-level policy change is attempting to promote the uptake of renewable energy technologies, the level of support for small companies trying to penetrate the Europe-wide private sector is small. Since the sector is largely driven by SMEs, Renew-Transnet aims at increasing the deployment of low carbon related technologies and technological innovations by removing the gap between micro-level innovators and the European energy technology market.Ê Our innovative and structured commercialisation process assists SMEs in the removal of both technical and non-technical barriers to innovation and technology transfer.
The Renew-Transnet consortium, working with Fuel Cell Markets, is introducing a new instrument to support the development of the European renewable energy sector as follows:
- makes available the required resources and expertise to focus commercialisation and transfer of technologies outside the domestic market;
- matches buyers and sellers as well as other parties such as R&D companies and financial institutions and;
- provides information on the regional market conditions and commercial potential for technologies so that SMEs can heighten the success rate of their foreign ventures.
Renew-Transnet provides the methodology for a networked system of operation, and hereby aims at promoting the creation of alliances with adequate expertise and resources required to survive and succeed. The utilised methodology is geared towards both single SMEs and the renewable energy sector in general. We aim to create a basis for the dynamism that is required to launch a large-scale diffusion of renewable energy technologies across the EU.
