Fuel Processing
In terms of energy efficiency, hydrogen is by far the best fuel for fuel cells. Hydrogen does not exist in its elemental form in nature, but needs to be produced, either from other fuels (fossil or non-fossil) or by electrolysis of water.
Established in 2001, Morphic subsidiary Helbio develops technology for cost-efficient production of hydrogen. The company’s system can be employed in conjunction with industrial use of hydrogen, and also as a preliminary stage for fuel cells used to generate electricity and heat.
The core component of Helbio’s patented technology is the “reformer”, which can be used to produce hydrogen at low cost from biogas, liquefied petroleum gas, ethanol, methanol and other liquid hydrocarbons. The strength of the technology lies in its high level of efficiency, low production costs and the opportunities it provides to produce hydrogen locally.
Helbio’s biggest potential market is solutions for stationary and mobile energy systems and standby generators. |
