Ilika is a science-led materials discovery company that uses high throughput techniques to significantly accelerate the discovery of new and patentable materials. Ilika provides R&D collaborations as well as technology development and materials licensing services. Ilika’s technology is based upon the work of world-class scientists in the field of combinatorial chemistry and Ilika’s customers have enjoyed significant increases in the productivity of their materials research programmes, typically by a factor of 10-100.
Using Ilika’s high throughput Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) technology a wide variety of different catalyst compositions can be simultaneously synthesised and then electrochemically screened to measure their catalytic performance. Indeed, llika can identify optimised alloy compositions for use as fuel cell catalysts as well as investigate the importance of particle size and substrate effects for dispersed systems.
Benefits of Ilika’s High throughput Capability
· Rapid Synthesis of hundreds of samples in a single experiment
· Guaranteed mixing of metal elements to produce metal alloys (with no need for post-deposition annealing)
· Highly controllable material compositions
· Thin film studies and dispersed particle studies possible
· Capability to electrochemically screen electrocatalysts particularly for PEM fuel cell applications in a high throughput manner
· Bespoke informatics for data collection, processing and presentation
· Large results datasets generated which can be used to justify patent applications
· Proven track record of generating patents and publications in this field with experience being gained in platinum lean and platinum free catalyst systems for hydrogen fuel cells
We are looking to form partnerships with fuel cell catalyst developers who are looking to optimize their catalyst technology.
The programmes of work that are undertaken at our facilities can be conducted on the following basis;
Research Collaborations Ilika offers customers the opportunity to either fully fund a work programme and thereby retain all commercialisation rights for a discovered material or to enter into a collaborative arrangement whereby the costs of the programme are shared by both parties. In the latter arrangement, Ilika will retain an agreed part of the commercialisation rights and receive either downstream royalty payments or other forms of remuneration.
Technology Development Services Ilika has experience in the customised design, assembly and operation of unique workflows for customers. We seek to understand our customers experimental needs and reflect these in the capability of the workflows constructed and the supporting software generated.
Material Licenses Ilika undertakes it’s own materials discovery programmes. Libraries of materials are assessed and characterised with unique material compositions being patented and licensed to interested parties.
