Mechanical/DFM Engineer

Department: Engineering

SUMMARY

As a key member of a product development team, the Mechanical/DFM Engineer will develop low-cost, manufacture able components and subsystems. The Mechanical/DFM engineer will select materials and production processes, guide design decisions, generate production documentation, validate designs, and develop suppliers. This is a critical position within IdaTech as we execute aggressive cost-reduction programs. A positive, team-oriented attitude is required for success in this position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLIITIES

  • Serving as a key member of product cost reduction team, responsible for identifying cost reduction opportunities, choosing appropriate manufacturing methods, interacting with suppliers, and completing design documentation.
  • Estimate cost reduction potential of various design choices. Work effectively with the product development team in identifying design paths that maximize cost savings potential with an acceptable risk level.
  • Assist in fabrication and testing of components and subsystems.
  • Interpret results and make recommendations. Report conclusions orally and in written format.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Ten years experience applying design skills in a medium to high volume production company.
  • Demonstrated DFM expertise, including successful production implementation of component and subsystem designs.
  • Background in molding, welding, metallurgy, casting, forging, and ASME pressure vessel codes desirable.
  • Solid Modeling skills. SolidWorks experience a plus.
  • GD&T Experience. Design for Six Sigma or equivalent experience desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Experience with electrical systems a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
