IdaTech develops and manufactures clean and reliable PEM fuel cell solutions for telecommunication, commercial and industrial backup power from 1 to 15 kW. IdaTech's technologies provide solutions for a wide range of applications from portable to off grid power.
IdaTech's portfolio of industry-certified fuel cell solutions are based on the company's fuel processing, fuel cell stack and power module and fuel cell system integration capabilities. IdaTech's ElectraGen™ product, which targets the backup power market, is commercially available and its iGen™ product, which targets the portable and remote power markets, is at an advanced stage of development. In addition, IdaTech is developing other products based on the same technology to target a number of additional markets. IdaTech's three areas of core technology include:

These first commercial products are comprised of four major subsystems: the proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell; a fuel processor for converting conventional fuels into the hydrogen needed by the fuel cell, the hydrogen purification component, and the balance of plant components. The balance of plant integrates the processor and fuel cell and converts the DC power into usable AC power. The systems produce electricity and heat with very little noise, vibration or emissions.
Today, IdaTech is deploying industry-leading commercial fuel cell products to address critical backup and remote power applications. Additionally, the company is rapidly building on the technical know-how achieved since the company began in 1996 as Northwest Power Systems, to develop a family of products providing a wide range of power outputs and fuel reformation.
IdaTech is continuing to build strategic relationships with market leaders to establish system and fuel distribution channels. In 1999, IdaTech joined the IDACORP, Inc. (NYSE: IDA), family of companies that include Idaho Power Company, a regulated utility, and Idacorp Technologies, a non-regulated subsidiary of IDACORP. In July, 2006, IdaTech was acquired by Investec Group Investments Limited (Investec), a UK-based specialist banking group that provides a diverse range of financial products and services to an international niche client base. Investec Limited has a primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) under the symbol INL. Investec plc has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange under the symbol INVP and a secondary listing on the JSE under the symbol INP.
In 2000, IdaTech formed a strategic alliance with Japanese firms to introduce our components and systems to markets in Japan and the rest of Asia. This partnership was developed to scale up to greater than ten times the current purification capacity for large-scale uses, extracting pure hydrogen from gas streams that are otherwise very difficult to handle efficiently. With this focus, IdaTech's unique technology can directly support efforts to develop a sustainable environment.
IdaTech is currently partnered with market-leading industrial fuel suppliers such as Brenntag, NORCO, IGSA and AirGas to enable the quick, simple distribution of hydrogen and HydroPlus, IdaTech's methanol/water fuel mixture.
