All Grades - Demonstration Only
The Dr FuelCell™ Starter Kit is designed as a quick and easy way to introduce the concepts of energy conversion and fuel cells. This unique package will allow you to quickly demonstrate how to convert solar or kinetic energy into power for an electrolyzer, that will in turn, produce hydrogen to be used by the fuel cell that will power a load source. A great tool for introducing fuel cells and “green energy” alternatives. Great for all ages!
Models & Configuration
For complete details on components included in each kit please refer to the downloadable catalogue or datasheet.
Component Descriptions
Solar Panel
- Converts radiation energy directly into electricity that is used to power the electrolyzer/reversible fuel cell
Hand Generator
- Converts kinetic (mechanical) energy directly into electricity that is used to power the electrolyzer/reversible fuel cell
- Contains a small NiMH battery to store additional energy
Reversible PEM fuel cell
- operates as both an electrolyzer and a fuel cell
- electrolysis produces hydrogen that is used in the fuel cell to convert chemical energy into electricity
Motor with Propeller
- This represents the electrical load in the system. When powered with enough electricity from the fuel cell, the propeller will spin until there is no electricity produced by the fuel cell.
Manual
- This product does not come with curriculum specific classroom materials, but does include a manual.
- This manual does explain how each part of the system works and what is happening at each stage. The information is enough to explain the basics of fuel cell technology.
Add-On Suggestions:
For a more complete classroom experience please consider the 5 and 10 unit classroom Dr FuelCell™ Model Car Classroom Bundle packages.
For the next level of experimentation with solar hydrogen technology please order the Dr FuelCell™ Science Kit or Professional. Each product includes all our lesson books, our CDROM and a comprehensive hands-on experiment kit for your classroom.
Topics covered and Investigation
This product does not come with a curriculum, but is pefect for introducing solar hydrogen fuel cell technology into the classroom. Demonstration concepts such as: electrolysis, solar power, the science of fuel cells, energy and energy conversion.
