"The blending, packaging and distribution of industrial alcohols, solvents, potable spirits and alcoholic beverages. The production and supply of demineralised water."

BCDTA Responsible Care Programme
This is an initiative by the chemical industry to demonstrate to the outside world that it is fully committed to promoting safe working practices and environmental awareness within the industry. |
There are four main concepts, which the Programme aims to address:-
- To help reduce the potential dangers of incidents which could result in injury to persons or damage to the environment.
- To ensure that the correct and necessary information on the products being handled is available at all stages and that all persons involved are adequately trained.
- To help to produce an effective emergency response to an incident which will, in turn, minimise potential risks to persons and/or the environment.
- To strengthen the quality of service provided by the company and improve public confidence in the distribution and handling of chemicals.
At present, this initiative is self policing. It is the responsibility of individual companies to join the scheme in the first instance and then conscientiously report accurate data. However, it is likely to soon become a condition of BCDTA membership that all companies commit to the Responsible Care initiative. Further, in the next few years the performance figures will probably be subjected to an independent external audit
