Hayman Limited is a family company with a history dating back to 1820, when James Burroughs, the great grandfather of the present Chairman, Christopher Hayman, acquired a drinks company. This later diversified to become one of the first UK producers of absolute ethyl alcohol. From those early days at a site in London, the company grew to be one of the most respected distributors in the market.
The name James Burroughs later became synonomous with Beefeater Gin which it distilled and distributed world-wide until 1987 when the company was bought by Whitbread. |
This change of ownership was short lived for the Fine Alcohols division of James Burrough Ltd, which the Hayman family regained control of in November 1988 under the new name of Hayman Limited.
Christopher Hayman followed the family tradition and joined the business after graduation, later becoming Production Director of James Burroughs Ltd in 1977. Christopher took on the role of Chairman of the new company, and working from a purpose built site in Witham, Essex, has further developed the company to become a world-wide distributor of Fine Alcohols and Solvents. In addition the site at Witham supplies bottled spirits to customers around the globe.

The Witham operation covers 3 acres, with a further 3.5 acres availble for future expansion. The facility consists of offices, production lines and both bonded and non-bonded warehousing.

The day to day running of the company is managed by the Executive Committee, which is made up of the three Executive Directors together with Les Smith (Sales and Marketing Manager - Speciality Products Division), Gerry Martin (Operations Manager) and Jeff Gill (Technical Manager), all of whom are committed to building on the success of the company to date and to taking it forward into the new millennium.
