Fuel Cells are Ready to Walk the Walk as Advanced Tools for a Greener World Take Center Stage in 2008

WASHINGTON, DC (September 18) The 2008 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition: Fuel Cells for a Greener World, will be held October 27-30, 2008 at the Phoenix Convention Center, in Phoenix, Arizona. “It is an exciting time in the history of fuel cells. The promise of fuel cells for efficient, eco-friendly power generation has become a reality. Fuel cells are here today and increasingly available to address the needs of an environmentally conscious, global community.” ~ Valerie Browning, ValTech Solutions, LLC, 2008 FCS&E Technical Program Chair.

Everyone’s been talking about fuel cells and now they’re finally using fuel cells. Increased focus on green energy and alternatives to traditional power sources are driving interest in fuel cells and other renewable energy sources. After decades of research and development fuel cells have come of age and are making an impact in everyday life.

For more than 30 years, the technical program of the Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition has been internationally recognized as the leading scientific program updating researchers on the newest breakthroughs in the fuel cell industry. Oral presentations and poster sessions bring together the foremost scientists in the field to discuss the latest research and development efforts from those pushing the envelope of fuel cell performance. The technical sessions will highlight developers’ near-term efforts to demonstrate fuel cells in a variety of energy sectors.

In keeping with the conference theme, the 2008 Program Committee developed a technical program focused on demonstrating the benefits of fuel cells as a legitimate alternative energy source that will mitigate the effects of global warming. This year’s technical program will again feature four parallel tracks that cover all aspects of fuel cell R&D, applications, and commercialization, including high and low temperature fuel cells, fuel cell applications in stationary and portable power, as well as sessions based solely on fuel cell marketing and commercialization.

The Opening Plenary Session will feature an impressive internationals panel of invited speakers and experts from the field including Klaus Bonhoff, NOW National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Technologies (Germany), Byron McCormick, General Motors (US), Ken Silverstein, EnergyBiz Insider (US), Lars Sjunnesson, Lund University (Sweden), and Atsushi Yamamoto, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, (Japan).

Not only will the 2008 FCS&E feature an outstanding Technical Program, but the conference will also feature over 140 international exhibitors. From Germany to Finland, from Japan to Arizona, the exhibit hall will boast the largest international constituency the FCS&E has seen in it’s over 30 years of existence!

Expo Highlights

The Exposition will once again offer a “Ride & Drive” event, sponsored in part by the California Fuel Cell Partnership, which will showcase the latest in environmentally friendly vehicles. This event will give attendees the opportunity to view and test drive a variety of fuel cell powered vehicles, to see, touch and feel how the technology can and will be applied in the “real world”. Additionally, attendees will be able to speak with representatives from the car manufacturers to learn more about the vehicles and the next generation of products, directly from the source.

Fuel Cell research and development have evolved into real applications and market gains for the industry, and this year’s Exposition will focus on encouraging the commercialization of fuel cells in the 21st Century. The annul Buyer’s Guide is larger than ever with products available for purchase from companies such as Bio-Logic USA, GenCell Corporation, Haynes International, Inc., and Tanaka Precious Metals Group.

Other featured exhibitors include:

  • Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition
  • Entegris
  • FuelCon Systems, Inc.
  • Taiwan Institute of Economic Research(TIER)
  • Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Network NRW
  • VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland

  • Demo World is our in-house demonstration area where the public will get a first hand look at just how fuel cells can be used in the everyday. You can look forward to demonstrations by Siemens, CD-adapco, Sono-Tek, Palmetto Fuel Cell Analysis & Design, and FuelCon, just to name a few.
  • Free Exhibit-Hall-Only badges – cultivate buyer/seller relationships!
  • First ever Educator’s Day that brings in educators from all over the Phoenix area to learn about current and potential fuel cell applications
  • Women in Fuel Cells Luncheon – bringing together and celebrating the contributions women have made to the science of fuel cells

The Fuel Cell Seminar and Exposition is the largest technical conference of its kind. The conference attracts over 1200 attendees annually, and offers the largest number of technical papers, the most exhibits, and the best coverage of the latest technical advances and research in the field. International participants include technical leaders, scientists, educators, researchers, developers, investors, students and manufacturers of fuel cell products. Technical sessions focus in four main areas: utility, residential, vehicle and portable. Challenges in costs, fuels, storage, reliability, lifetime and adoptability are also covered. Fuel Cell Seminar and Exposition attendees, sponsors and exhibitors represent the latest in leading research and development—both domestically and abroad. The 2008 FCS&E is continuing it’s mission to educate and inform not only the conference attendees, but also the general public of fuel cell related technical and commercial developments.
