 | Overview | Plug Power was founded in 1997 as a joint venture between DTE Energy and Mechanical Technology Inc, and was granted what was then the largest award given by the US DoE for PEM fuel cell research. Since then the company has grown from 22 to over 350 employees, and in 2000 expanded to the Netherlands through the acquisition of Gastec's fuel processor activities.
Plug Power offers several product platforms to meet a wide variety of clean, reliable, on-site energy generation needs:
- GenSys on-site power systems - for continuous power applications
- GenCore backup power systems - for standby emergency and UPS applications
- GenSite on-site hydrogen generation systems - for industrial hydrogen gas applications
Plug Power is engaged in discussions with state and federal governments to increase funding for R&D, provide tax incentives, and put in place that kind of regulatory infrastructure that will serve as the foundation for widespread adoption of distributed power generation.
Plug Power has an agreement with General Electric for distribution and service of its stationary PEM fuel cell systems, and an agreement signed with both GE MicroGen and Vaillant in Europe to develop a combination heat and electricity system for the home.
Plug Power is proof of the promise of fuel cell technology with units operating in the field, and partners around the world that are identifying customers who can put our stationary products to use today. |
