OverviewOverviewHyundai Motor Company (HMC) is striving to be a leader in the era of clean, hydrogen-based energy. The company is developing technology that brings automobiles and nature together, as well as unites people and nature so that everyone can enjoy a cleaner and healthier natural environment. This effort can be seen in the Hyundai fuel cell vehicle (FCV) development program. Fuel cell technology started out being extremely expensive; it was used to power spacecraft and to provide the water that astronauts need to stay alive while in space.

Once fuel cell system production technology becomes practical for automobiles (in terms of affordability, performance, and safety), fuel cells will also be used on ships, in buildings and at small power plants serving a limited area. They will power submarines and low-noise vehicles, as well as mobile communications devices.

One may say that 20th century industrialization was driven by the internal combustion engine. In the 21st century, fuel cells will perform this role. HMC aims to be at the forefront of the 21st century industrial revolution through ongoing efforts to develop and commercialize fuel cell vehicles.
