The research and development(R&D) of fuel cells at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics(DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) have been carried out for more than 30 years. Two types of alkaline fuel cells were first developed over the period of the 1960¡¯s and the 1970¡¯s respectively, and an Alkaline free-electrolyte flow H2-O2 Fuel cell and a large capacity oxidation-deoxidation electrolyte flow energy storage fuel cell were successfully developed as the growth of the fuel cell technologies in the1980¡¯s. Consequently, the R&D of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC), Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell (MCFC), Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC), Regenerative Hydrogen-Oxygen Fuel Cell (RFC) and Direct Alcohol Fuel Cell (DAFC) have been carrying out since the 1990
In order to speed up the research and development of fuel cells mentioned above and their commercialization, the Fuel Cell R&D Center was established in 1998. Dalian Sunrise Power Co. Ltd. with emphasis upon the development of fuel cell technologies, market exploitation and fuel cell commercialization was founded in March 2001, collaborated by the Fuel Cell R&D Center and five other national companies.
At present, the Fuel Cell R&D Center is comprised of three groups as follows:
1. Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Group (Group 301)
2. High Temperature Fuel cell Group (Group 302)
3. Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Group (Group 305)
