Fuel Cell Markets

When considering energy systems, it is vital to consider the entire energy system. For example, hydrogen is a fuel or 'energy carrier', but can be produced in a number of different ways, including electrolysis (using electricity which can come from any source; nuclear, conventional or alternative), reforming of fossil fuels or bio-fuels and gasification of fossil fuels or biomass. It seems most prudent and logical to strive for energy systems which are as sustainable as possible from the original harvesting of energy to its ultimate end-use. This concept of a complete energy chain is often known as 'Well to Wheel': i.e. from finding and exploiting an oil well right through to using the refined fuel to turn the wheels of your car.
