A solid electrical conductor by which current transfers to or from a non-metallic part of the circuit, whether that be a solid, gas, electrolytic solution, molten mass or even a vacuum.

In fuel cells, electrodes transfer the current from the reactant gases in the electrolyte to the electrical output circuit.
