Improve Thermal Management of HTPEM Stacks

HEXIM™, a unique compact integrated packaging material / solution, enables system management of three functions with one component: heat exchanger, insulation and manifolding. Systems with multiple adjacent insulation components are prime candidates for this product’s capabilities.

A key advantage of HEXIM™ for HTPEM is in managing problematic variations in temperature profile across the stack. The main advantage of HEXIM™ is its ability to control the amount of heat given off by an object and then direct the heat given off to a different location.

ENrG combines advanced ceramic materials and coatings to produce non-shedding insulation shielding internal operating temperatures to 1260°C, while the outer surface is safe to touch. The lightweight, low-density ceramic can be molded so that any application shape and localized thickness variations can be accommodated; the material can be molded with integrated fasteners to ease installation. The use of all-ceramic materials allows HEXIM™ to withstand high temperatures without risk of performance decline or material degradation; it is moisture resistant for high humidity applications. The inside surface, exposed to the heat source, may be coated with a ceramic based, nonporous ceramic coating which enhances the strength and durability of the material.

Understanding custom size requirements and operating conditions, ENrG works with each customer to engineer a unique solution for system management. With the ability to include integrated manifolds, variable wall thicknesses, thermal and mechanical heat exchange inserts and other functional details, ENrG integrates your specific needs to a smaller and more efficient design.

Typical applications include; phosphoric acid environments; refractory liners for reaction chambers; hydrogen reformers for fuel cell equipment including PEM, HTPEM, MCFC and SOFC; exhausts; and thermal oxidizers. For gas reactions, the design can provide a larger surface area and increased residence time without being a heat-sink. The result is a more complete reaction with lower emissions.

  • Molded to desired shape and thickness (1/4" minimum)
  • Capability to customize with integrated manifolds, inserts and fixturing
  • Maximum operating temperature = 1260°C
  • Moisture resistant
  • High thermal shock resistance
  • Oxidation and reduction resistant - water and oil resistant
  • Low emissions of NOx and CO
