Micro combined heat and power units is one of the latest results of our committed efforts in the development and marketing of fuel cell systems for the supply of environmentally friendly energy based on hydrogen. Full market launch is expected in 2012.
A private micro combined heat and power unit can cover a family's consumption of power and heat
In our daily lives the stable and reliable energy supply plays an important role. For that purpose we have developed a compact 5 kW micro power and heating unit for use in private households, small blocks of flats and small-scale industry. A micro combined heat and power unit is comparable to a common household heater, the essential difference being, however, that the micro combined heat and power unit produces power as well as heat for the house.
Reduced energy consumption and pollution
When we leave the power and heat production to the consumers, the transmission loss in the power and district heating net will be considerably reduced. The gain is a higher system efficiency, energy savings and minimized - if not completely eliminated - escape of damaging residues.
The micro power plant is based on a fuel cell module driven by hydrogen. As hydrogen is not yet as common as we expect it to be, the fuel cells are currently driven by natural gas, which is transformed into hydrogen in the integral fuel processor.
Test units are currently being tested in a number of selected projects
Dantherm Power is at the moment working on installing 25 test units in a few selected projects. In 2010 approx. 100 units are expected to be installed in further selected projects, leading to a pre-commercial phase pointing towards full market launch in 2012 - 2015.
Danish Micro Combined Heat and Power
Dantherm Power is one among nine outstanding Danish energy companies supporting the Danish Micro Combined Heat and Power project. The project is the first European combined heat and power project to combine the entire fuel cell value chain in one national consortium. The aim is to achieve a more efficient energy supply and a reduction in CO2.
Strong competences in one consortium
The consortium's composition and the project's structure ensure that the user-friendliness of several competing fuel cell types can be tested in the project.
Combined heat and power units will be installed and demonstrated at the properties of a number of Danish consumers. Experiences of installation, operation, maintenance and user-friendliness will be used to further improve the units and training of operators.
