CPI is powering ahead with plans to spread the word about alternative energy – and especially the key role which fuel cells will play in bridging the energy gap.
The Fuel Cell Application Facility is marketing its facilities to SME’s, fuel cell companies and organisations such as venture capital companies who want to see new cells put through their paces.
Project Manager Jon Helliwell says the FCAF is also lining up a number of intriguing projects, including using a fuel cell to light a unique sculpture, and it has plans to test the potential of cells to guide motorists by providing power for motorway signs.
At present, highways contractors can face high costs in getting grid power to traffic signs. Fuel cells can be installed at the point of use and provide cheaper, greener and more efficient power.
Joint projects are now also in the pipeline including collaboration with a European fuel cell laboratory and a major measurement services group. All helping to light the way to a greener, more efficient energy industry.
Jon Helliwell said: “We are concentrating our efforts on projects that clearly demonstrate the real benefits of fuel cells in the new energy mix.
“We are hoping to secure ERDF funding to support our aim of helping local SMEs to benefit from the opportunities this technology offers
“We are great believers in showing people how fuel cells can benefit them, businesses or work places and the environment. It’s an exciting area!”
