Cabot’s Dynalyst® family of fuel cell (FC) electrocatalysts are designed for use in performance driven applications ranging from portable to automotive Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cells and delivering high performance at a range of operating conditions. Dynalyst® electrocatalysts combine high performance with excellent platinum utilization due to the unique morphology of electrocatalyst powder. Cabot’s Dynalyst® electrocatalysts are designed for low platinum loading Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEA) for high performance hydrogen-air and direct methanol fuel cells.

Key Properties and Applications

  • High Electrochemical Performance
  • Controlled Aggregate Size
  • Controlled Macro and Microporosity
  • Compatible with Advanced CCM and MEA Fabrication Techniques
  • Manufactured by a Versatile High Volume Spray –Based Platform

Cabot’s Dynalyst® family of fuel cell (FC) electrocatalysts are designed for use in various applications:

  • Hydrogen-Air PEM FC
  • Direct Methanol FC (cathode)
  • High Temperature Fuel Cells
  • Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cells
  • Alkaline Fuel Cells

Dynalyst® Manufacturing Process

Cabot’s Dynalyst® electrocatalysts are manufactured by a proprietary, spray-based powder processing technique. The spray-based process entails 3-stages, atomization, processing and product collection combined in a single unit operation that affords superior consistency and product reproducibility. In the processing step, aqueous precursor droplets, entrained in a gas stream, are processed at a well-controlled elevated temperature, for a predetermined time. In the case of supported Pt/C electrocatalysts, a soluble Pt species controllably decomposes to form Pt nanocrystallites on the surface of the carbon blacks.
