Cabot Corporation Changes the Name of its Cabot Energy Materials Business to Cabot Fuel Cells

Cabot Fuel Cells Plans To Introduce New Modified Carbon and Corrosion-Resistant Carbon-based Products

Albuquerque, NM and Boston, MA – (November 13, 2006) -- Cabot Corporation announced today it has changed the name of its Cabot Energy Materials business to Cabot Fuel Cells, effective immediately. Cabot also announced plans to introduce additional commercial modified carbon and corrosion resistant carbon-based fuel cell products beginning in early 2007.

Greg Romney, General Manager, Cabot Fuel Cells said, “This name change will help establish wider recognition of Cabot as a supplier of materials to the fuel cell industry, building on our longstanding recognition as an R&D leader in materials solutions to the fuel cell and energy sector. We believe that this name change clearly communicates our plans for growth by launching validated breakthrough fuel cell products for use by multiple industries in electronics, consumer, military and automotive markets.”

The soon-to-be released carbon-based products were developed using Cabot’s proprietary carbon technologies and surface modification processes. The first new Modified Carbon and Corrosion-Resistant Carbon-based electrocatalyst material product to be launched will be an automotive-grade material with exceptional corrosion resistance combined with high performance under industry standard protocols for accelerated durability testing.

“Our launch of Modified Carbon and Corrosion-Resistant Carbon-based electrocatalyst products will be a major step forward for the industry and will demonstrate the advances the combination of world-class electrocatalysts and carbon technologies can deliver. In customer tests, these materials have been shown to have exceptional durability and maintain performance under low relative humidity conditions,” Romney said.

Cabot Fuel Cells launched four commercial products in 2005 -- commercial grades of Dynalyst™ high performance, platinum electrocatalysts for use in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) and Direct Methanol (DMFC) fuel cell systems. The four grades range from 20% to 60% Platinum loading on Carbon supports and are available in commercial quantities. Manufactured using Cabot’s unique spray conversion manufacturing platform, the Dynalyst™ electrocatalysts use less platinum while delivering state-of-the-art levels of performance and durability.

About Cabot Fuel Cells Group

In addition to its commercially available Dynalyst™ electrocatalysts, Cabot’s Fuel Cells group has R&D efforts, aimed at developing improved materials products for PEM and DMFC fuel cell applications. Cabot Fuel Cells employs proprietary technologies from throughout Cabot Corporation, including a proprietary spray conversion manufacturing and discovery platform for the production of electrocatalysts and a wide range of proprietary methods for the synthesis and production of specialty carbon support materials for fuel cells.

New Name, New Product for Cabot Fuel Cells

Cabot Fuel Cells is located in a state-of-the-art electrocatalyst development and commercial production facility located in Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as the world-class center for carbon particle technology at Cabot’s Business and Technology Center in Billerica, Massachusetts.
