Hydrogen from water

Acta has filed a patent application for a platinum free catalyst for water electrolysis.

Hydrogen generation from water by electrolysis currently accounts for around 5% of global hydrogen production. The advantage of an electrolyser is that the hydrogen can be generated close to the point of use. The disadvantage is that it is more expensive than centralised hydrogen generation and consumes more electricity to produce than the fuel cell will in turn generate when the hydrogen is used as a fuel.

Acta's platinum free electrolyser catalysts allow the possibility of significant cost reductions in water electrolysers, making water electrolysis a more commercially viable option for distributed hydrogen production.
