NanoMaterials Discovery Corp. Issued Key nanotech patent

Covers discovery and refinement of nanostructured materials

February 11, 2004 (Laramie, Wyoming) - Nanomaterials Discovery Corporation (NDC) announced today that it has been issued U.S. Patent No. 6,683,446, "Electrode array for development and testing of materials," ("the '446 patent") by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This patent establishes a significant proprietary position for NDC in the area of rapid discovery and refinement of nanostructured materials.

"The development of new nanostructured materials for commercial applications has traditionally been a cumbersome process," said Dr. Don Montgomery, President and CEO of the company. "Electrochemistry offers the most comprehensive, reproducible and well-vetted approach to developing new nanostructured materials. The methods disclosed in the '446 allow us to accelerate the pace of discovery of new nanomaterials by a factor of over a thousand when compared to traditional approaches."

"The '446 patent is a cornerstone of our intellectual property portfolio," said Dr. John M. Pope, NDC co-founder and Chairman. "It allows us to lay a strong proprietary foundation for an aggressive commercial nanomaterials development program."

The '446 patent provides for methods and apparatus that use arrays of electrodes to rapidly develop large libraries of new nanomaterials. Using highly controlled and reproducible electrochemical methods, the '446 patent establishes a proprietary position at NDC for arrays of meaningful nanomaterials with controllable nanostructure. Producing and testing new nanomaterials using electronic methods allows NDC's proprietary technology to be highly automated and integrated with state-of-the-art informatic systems. These nanomaterials can be used for a wide variety of applications in multi-billion dollar commercial markets such as batteries, fuel cells, thin panel displays, nanoelectronics, high performance materials and medical devices.

About nanoMaterials Discovery Corp
